Updates
Lexi

She went back to the vet this week for another set of x-rays. The original diagnoses was correct and it has progressed more in the past week. She now has a crack in the femoral head. Our next step is to find a vet that does bone surgery (ours doesn't and there aren't many that do). I've called a few and the average price for the surgery is between $700-$900. Our vet says she needs the surgery as soon as possible because her bone is getting worse. I plan on calling some vets tomorrow and decided on who we want to use. After the surgery she will have to stay confined for at least six weeks.

Our House

The insurance adjustor was out on Friday and looked at the roof. He just called me to let me know that the entire roof is going to need to be replaced. Our roof is the same age as the house (about 13 years). All we are going to have to pay is our $1,000 deductible. Tomorrow I have to call and get some roofers to come out and give us some estimates.

Our Bank Account

Anyone have $1,700-1,900 they want to give us????

Papers
For all those interested I made A's on all the papers I was complaining about having to write! I finished the semester with A's in three classes and a B in the other. Only six classes to go! I just talked to my adviser and everything should be set for me to graduate in December! There are a few classes that I might have to take at weird times but they "should" all be offered!

My Poor Puppy
Lexi has been limping around for about 6 weeks now. I took her to the vet 3 weeks ago and they put her on an anti-inflammatory. She is still limping. Michael took her back to the vet today and they did x-rays. Our wiggling little girl didn't hold still too good. From what the vet could tell from the x-rays she has Legg-Calve-Perthes Disease. The vet said it is very rare (she had to look it up) and that she wants us to bring Lexi back a day she hasn't had any food so that they can put her to sleep and do some more xrays. The new x-rays will have to be sent to a bone specialist in Auburn to diagnose the disease.

Legg-Calve-Perthes Disease (LCP) is a disorder of hip joint conformation occurring in both humans and dogs. In dogs, it is most often seen in the miniature and toy breeds between the ages of 4 months to a year.LCP results when the blood supply to the femoral head is interrupted resulting in avascular necrosis, or the death of the bone cells. Followed by a period of revascularization, the femoral head is subject to remodeling and/or collapse creating an irregular fit in the acetabulum, or socket. This process of bone cells dying and fracturing followed by new bone growth and remodeling of the femoral head and neck, can lead to stiffness and pain.LCP is believed to be an inherited disease, although the mode of inheritance is not known. Because there is a genetic component, it is recommended that dogs affected with LCP not be used in breeding programs. (http://www.offa.org/lcpgeninfo.html)

If this is what is wrong with her the treatment is: The degree of clinical severity of LCP varies, and treatment can vary accordingly. In mild cases, the dog may occasionally resist bearing weight on the affected leg or may exhibit periodic lameness. In these cases, limited activity and treatment with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) may be sufficient. In more severe cases as the pain and discomfort experienced increase, the dog may become totally lame and avoid all use of the affected leg. Furthermore, the leg muscles may begin to atrophy after extended periods of non-use. In severe cases, treatment often resorts to excision of the femoral head and neck. By removing the femoral head and neck, the bone on bone contact that is the source of the pain and discomfort is eliminated. Later, through the healing process and with therapy, a new false joint is formed by muscle and tissue, and the dog may have a complete recovery.

For the next week Lexi is on more anti-inflammatory drugs and is on strict crate rest. The vet says she can not run or play at all. Say a little prayer that nothing is seriously wrong with her.

Tree
When I got home from work yesterday our Bradford Pear tree had split and fell on our roof. After hitting the roof it rolled off and landed on top of our trash can and took over the driveway. As far as we can tell the damage is minor (messed up a few shingles).

Sunday Michael's dad is going to bring his chainsaw to help us cut the tree up so we can park in the driveway again! We also plan on getting up on the roof to inspect the damages, lets hope it isn't too bad!

WONDERFUL bed
I am finally recovering from our long weekend! Here is a play-by-play for anyone interested:

Tuesday: My birthday, had to work =( Michael surprised me by picking up Edo's on his way home from work!

Wednesday: Cleaned the house and did a TON of laundry. (I actually mowed the yard! If someone would have told me last year this time that I would be mowing my yard I would laugh. Since my surgery my allergy problems have been soooooo much better!) Sold all my old books back at Off Campus and made $200. Went to Steinmart (did I spell that right?) with Michael's mom and she bought me a birthday shirt! Went to dinner at my mom's for my bday.

Thursday: Left the house at 8:00 and dropped Lexi off at my mom's house. Went to the bank and hit the road. Made it down to Fairhope at about 3:00. Stopped by my (now) brother-in-law's mothers house (that's where their wedding was) to see the progress. Checked into our hotel at 4:30. Laid on the bed and realized why the hotel was 4 star! Went to dinner with Michael's parents for my birthday. We ate a place in Fairhope called the Steamer. They brought out two huge trays full of HUGE shrimp (still had heads on them) and crab legs. We had to crack and peel all our own stuff. It was a new experience for me! When I went to pull the head off one of the shrimp and fluid in it's head shot across the restaurant in front of Michael's face! We then went back to the hotel and slept peacefully in the WONDERFUL bed!

Friday: Woke up at 9:00 and went to eat breakfast poolside. Then we drove to Foley. Shopped until about 12:00 (got some GREAT deals) and then went and ate pizza at the Mellow Mushroom. Then back to the outlets until around 2:30. We then went back to our room and got ready to go to the rehearsal dinner. Went to the rehearsal dinner and they all ate a piglet (40 pound piglet with the HEAD STILL ON IT)! Then went to a cheesy bar and had a drink and some nachos (since I don't eat pork). Then went back to the hotel and slept peacefully in the WONDERFUL bed!

Saturday: Woke up at 9:00 and went to eat breakfast poolside. We then got in our swimsuits and played in the pool. A friend of the family was also staying at our hotel and I played in the pool with their boys. The hotel pool had a huge twisty slid and waterfalls. I got a sunburn. Went to the room around 1:00, Michael took a nap and I watched TV. Got ready for the wedding. At 3:00 (we had to be there at 3:30 but wedding didn't start until 5:30) I went to put my dress on the zipper busted! I didn't have anything else to wear to the wedding! We went to the wedding (me in casual clothes!) and Vicki (another family friend) sewed me into my dress! Lucky for me I had a sweater to wear over the dress so no one could tell it was messed up! Wedding was beautiful (NO RAIN!!!). We partied it up and had a good time. Went back to the hotel room and slept peacefully in the WONDERFUL bed!

Sunday: Woke up at 9:00 and went to eat breakfast poolside. Checked out of the hotel and drove back to Foley. Went to the outlets AGAIN and spent more money! Drove to Gulf Shores and ate at the Original Oyster House. Then went to a store called Old Time Pottery and bought some awesome stuff for the house! We got a HUGE mirror for over the fireplace for $47! Then we drove home. We got home around 10:30 and went to bed and didn't feel peaceful in our regular bed!
